2022 Strategy & Research Intern, Amp Solar Energy Inc.
“My project with Amp energy was focused on researching companies which could benefit from Amp's digital energy services and presenting strategies for Amp to enter each market were the main project goals. From my research project, Amp now have a database of potential customers. This will enable the company to progress quickly and form an effective market strategy.
My manager gave me invaluable insights to the digital energy space. I have gained invaluable experience in both the green hydrogen and digital energy markets and my research skills have been significantly developed.”
2022 Media Intern, Boat Rocker Media
“I had a variety of different projects working across marketing, casting, and production management. My work will have created a variety of useful feedback and progress on upcoming projects. My research and feedback will have informed and directed projects. I learned a lot of interesting information and skills that go into the pre-production and management side of media production which enlightened me about the work that my degree doesn't show me.
My manager treated me with the upmost respect and constantly had my future in mind making sure to assign projects that would progress my learning and also my future prospects.”
2021 Finance Intern, Suncor Energy
“I mostly applied my transferable skills of engineering background on my assignments as a Finance intern. I was involved in the Share buyback Analysis of Suncor Energy with peers in the oil and gas sector, Ratio Analysis and NAV (Net Asset Value) Analysis of the company. I used my analytical skills, research capabilities and excel knowledge to work on my projects. I learnt about annual reports of the company and key information to look in it for the financial analysis. I learnt that it is very important to have a clear strategy and execution at all levels of a company for a successful transformation.
Through this internship, I was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to shadow Alister Cowan (Chief Financial Officer) of Suncor Energy for two days. It was a fantastic experience. I learnt that skills like clarity of vision, commitment and expertise to articulate thoughts to all employees working at different levels is crucial for becoming an impactful leader.”
2022 Data Science Analysts, KPMG
“I have been extremely lucky to have been able to thoroughly immerse myself in Canadian culture whilst simultaneously gaining invaluable experience working alongside an amazing team at KPMG. It has been exciting to be able to translate my learning into practice whilst working on a novel initiative that is imperative to the business. I have enjoyed networking and I believe this experience has provided me with a solid foundation for when I leave university and begin building my career. I will be forever grateful to KPMG and Entrepreneurial Scotland for this experience.” Anya
“My experience with KPMG has been amazing, as well as the opportunity to have moved across the world to live in Toronto for the summer. I am so excited to be a part of a huge project within KPMG Canada, creating something that is of crucial importance to the business. I have gained lots of new knowledge, have created connections to further my career and have grown in confidence throughout my internship here.” Sophie
2021 Scottish Affairs Office Intern, Scottish Government (Ottawa)
“I chose languages as my degree because I thrive on discovering new cultures and ways of life, so being able to work with a team in Canada and learn about everything, from tourism to climate change policy, was a perfect fit. Everyone I worked with on the team was very supportive and assured me of the value of my contributions throughout the entire term.
Being a Saltire Scholar is more than simply writing down a “to do” list and ticking it off day in and day out: it means getting to the heart of the role. It means looking past the industry and “preferred experience” on the job advertisement and understanding that what the employer is looking for is someone who has the same vision for the world as they do, whether it’s through engineering, medicine, marketing, or art is inconsequential.”
